Available online now! Free download. A limited number of physical copies will be available soon, also.
I'm very excited to post that Weather Duo will be releasing a live recording, including an improvisation with the incredible Dutch composer/vocalist/sound poet Jaap Blonk. We will be releasing it through Mine All Mine THIS MONTH. Details to come soon.
Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps: Registers Her Delight is available for purchase now through Mine All Mine's shop. You can also stream the whole album for a limited time! Check it out! In other news, I'm busy being back on the road with Anna Vogelzang. Headed out east this time. Check her dates here. It has been a busy couple of weeks for Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps. We've finished printing our new album, Registers Her Delight--which we could afford to do because of our successful Kickstarter campaign. We had an album release show on Friday night, which was really awesome. Over 100 people attended, which was quite a feat in the cozy Dragonfly Lounge. Scott Gordon of The Isthmus did a nice piece on us that appeared in last week's paper. Registers Her Delight will be available on Tuesday through Mine All Mine Records. Until then, here's our single, Brachiosaurus Boogie (For Kids!), which features a B-side of an alternate take of Rock It, Science. Here's another post dedicated to sharing some new music from people I have the honor of knowing: Sons of Daughters, an amazing MA/NY/CT-based trio, are releasing an album today! It's really awesome. You should get it for yourself at their bandcamp page: Madison-based percussionist/composer Michael Brenneis has just released an album of his compositions for his ensemble, The Ten Sleeps Trio. It features the talents of Patrick Breiner on sax, (of Sons of Daughters, above) and Luke Polipnick (Glacier, Wailing Ships) on the electric guitar. It's a gnarly good time: Thirdly, Randall Luecke, of the Madison band Crane Your Swan Neck, has teamed up with another Madison artist, Jentri Colello, in a new project called aminals. They've just uploaded a demo, and it's pretty great. Excited about this single just released by Mine All Mine: debut of John Praw's (who created my eponymous album a few months back) side project Dressed Up, which includes a totally killing remix by Brain Grimmer of the Brothers Grimm. Hello from Memphis! I'm here now at the Folk Alliance International Conference, the penultimate stop on the midwest tour with Anna Vogelzang. I've been meeting some excellent people and hearing some excellent music. For example and example.
Weather Duo is Anna's backup band for this tour, and we've been having a great time. We are, however, excited to return to Madison to get back to work on various things--a Weather Duo multimedia project, our Lovely Socialite album release.. all sorts of fun. Looking back to look forward, here's a video from last month's (first ever) Broom Street Session, a new monthly acoustic music series: We leave tomorrow! Pat (of the Weather Duo) and I are the backing band for Anna Vogelzang's spring tour. Hello midwest! East coast later this spring.
I might post updates as we go, but I don't have a camera and can't afford one of those popular Internet Phones, so we'll see. Check out the dates on Anna's website; maybe I'll see you there! This last weekend, Bookless was held at the old Madison Central Library. The building has been emptied for future deconstruction/construction of a new library, and in a feat of absolute brilliance, the library was transformed into a modern art museum for a night. Over 100 Madison artists had exhibitions and installations, and local musicians and performers transformed the place into the event of the year. It was amazing! Lovely Socialite played, and with the help of Conor Fury-King, put together this video, which features the artwork, crowds, and our live performance: Full audio of our performance is available for stream/download here!
Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps is up to some exciting things! We've just finished recording our first album, and are now in the mixing stages. We recorded at Blast House Studios with the extremely adept Landon Arkins, and it's sounding amazing! An alternate take of my tune, 'Rock It, Science,' will appear on the Project Lodge benefit compilation album later this week. Lovely Socialite will be starting our own Kickstarter fundraising campaign in the next couple of weeks to help press the album. These videos are from our performance in the Mine All Mine Winter Series at the Dragonfly Lounge, another great development for the Madison music scene. I can't wait to share with you some tracks from the album! Preview: It will include the sounds of children screaming.
The next chance to see Lovely Socialite perform is January 28th, for Bookless, a really exciting event in a big empty library! |
Authorbassist/improviser/ I send emails occasionally about upcoming performances. They're very cordial.
